David Peoples - Scriptwriter of Blade Runner

Designation:
Scriptwriter

True Designation:
David Webb Peoples

Incept Date:
-

Incept Location:
Middletown, Connecticut, USA

David Peoples was called in when Scott felt that the screenplay that Hampton Fancher wouldn't change any more needed a harder edge. Although close to time to start filming, Scott asked Peoples to work on it. David's first reaction when reading Fancher's script was that it was "terrific" and he couldn't change anything. Of course, with some encouragement, he did. And although he adopted Fancher's style, he added quite a bit according to Scott's vision. However, the final script was created by Scott from a combination of Peoples' and Fancher's scripts.

Peoples had alread written "Unforgiven", but it wasn't made until much later, (by Clint Eastwood). In the 90's, Peoples did the screenplay for another visionary director - "Twelve Monkeys" for Terry Gilliam. And then later, he created "Soldier" which is viewed by many as a "sidequel" to Blade Runner.
